THE act of Kapar member of parliament Datuk Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid making “slanderous statements” against PKR top leaders Datuk Seri Azmin Ali and Zuraida Kamaruddin, and even Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, is irresponsible.

Zuraida’s political secretary, Nor Hizwan Ahmad, said Abdullah needed to apologise to all those he attacked.

“It is clear what Abdullah said is a betrayal to the spirit of Reformasi and the aspirations of ‘Malaysia Baru’.

“The personal attacks on Zuraida and Azmin by Abdullah and his wife, Datin Faizah Ariffin, shave brought shame to Pakatan Harapan and PKR.

“It is more embarrassing that Abdullah accused Dr Mahathir and Tun Daim Zainuddin of conspiring to stop Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim from becoming the prime minister,” said Nor Hizwan in a statement yesterday.

Nor Hizwan added that it was obvious Abdullah was confused when it came to the law when the latter asked those he had allegedly slandered to prove that the accusations were untrue.

“The burden of proof is on the accuser, not the accused.

“If this is the way Abdullah thinks, his ability to be a leader, and a member of parliament, come into question.

“I urge Abdullah to apologise,” said Nor Hizwan.

Abdullah has not responded to New Straits Times Press’ request for comments.

Several days ago, Abdullah claimed that Dr Mahathir and Daim were behind a conspiracy to stop Anwar from becoming prime minister.

It was reported that Abdullah had pointed fingers at Zuraida for allegedly ordering her supporters to intimidate his (Abdullah’s) wife.

Several PKR members, who declined to be named, felt that Abdullah’s actions were uncalled for.

“Abdullah is being unprofessional. If he continues to attack our leaders, it will split the party.

“His statements have angered our counterparts in Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) as he also hurled baseless accusations against Dr Mahathir.

“Abdullah should say sorry and voice his dissatisfaction internally.”

Another PKR member said it was possible that Abdullah acted that way because of the party polls.

“As we know, the party election is coming. That is probably why Abdullah is doing this.

“But he doesn’t have to badmouth others to the extent of using Dr Mahathir’s name just to garner votes.

“He does not need to bring other people down as they are his comrades.

“He should discharge his duties for the people and not chase positions.”
