‘COMMITTEE WAS INEXPERIENCED’

Govt cannot fulfil promises in 100 days as manifesto was drafted without studies, clear info, says Pas veep

THE Pakatan Harapan (PH) manifesto for the 14th General Election (GE14) was prepared by an inexperienced committee, resulting in the government’s failure to fulfil its promises in 100 days, said Pas vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah.

He said it was clear that the committee had drafted the manifesto without carrying out studies and obtaining clear information.

He also said the committee had made assumptions that the manifesto could be delivered smoothly, without taking into account the procedures, rules and other aspects of running a government.

“It is obvious that the manifesto was drafted by other people, (it was) not done by (prime minister) Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who has vast experience in the government.

“They (the committee) may not have the experience of being the government, resulting in lack of knowledge of how a government is run.

“They thought it would be simple to fulfil the promises... form the government today and fulfil (the promises) the next day?”

Amar said the people had voted PH to form the government because of the promises made in its manifesto.

However, he said, Pas was banking on the government to fulfil its promises like abolishing toll and reducing fuel prices, even though this might not be done within 100 days as promised.

Amar, who is deputy Kelantan menteri besar, claimed that many ministers were “struggling” to shoulder their responsibilities, particularly in issuing statements, answering questions in the Dewan Rakyat and addressing issues.

“This is probably because they do not have any background as a minister, but we must take it as a learning process and hope that they will overcome (shortcomings) in the long run.

“It is good that they apologise when mistakes are made. However, it also shows they are not prepared (and) did not study the issues or subjects under their jurisdiction beforehand.”
