Give space to Umno leadership, KJ tells Najib

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Razak has been advised to provide space for the current Umno leadership to chart the party’s course.

Rembau member of parliament Khairy Jamaluddin said he agreed with calls by several party leaders for the former Umno president to distance himself from party affairs.

“I agree that the new Umno leadership should be given space to chart the party’s course.

“That is why the former president should provide space to the party leadership.

“The same goes to former candidates for the top post,” he said at the Parliament lobby yesterday.

Khairy was commenting on former tourism and culture minister Datuk Seri Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz’s statement that his former boss should distance himself from Umno due to the graft allegations levelled at him, especially ones relating to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

Federal Territory Umno liaison chief Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani had described Najib as “baggage” to the party.

Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin had said the outcomes of the 14th General Election and the Sungai Kandis by-election were a manifestation of the party’s refusal to adapt to the new reality.

He said it was Najib who was being judged by the public, not Umno.
