Raad named World Bank research hub country manager

KUALA LUMPUR: Firas Raad has been appointed as the new country manager for the World Bank Group Global Knowledge and Research Hub in Malaysia.

Raad, a Jordanian national, joined the bank in 2002 as senior health policy specialist. He has since held various management positions, with the most recent assignment being country manager for Kuwait.

“I am honoured to be taking on the role as country manager and will be focusing on deepening our collaborat­ion with the Malaysian government and other stakeholde­rs in working towards innovative developmen­t solutions for all Malaysians.

“We will also continue to leverage Malaysia’s own journey in ending poverty and sharing prosperity over recent decades to support other countries with similar aspiration­s,” he said.

Country director for Brunei, Malaysia, Philippine­s and Thailand Mara Warwick said: “Our collaborat­ion with Malaysia is testament of how a country, on the cusp of high income, can continue as a close partner and member of the World Bank Group.

“We highly value this partnershi­p and will continue to facilitate Malaysia’s growing role as a global developmen­t partner.”

World Bank Group Global Knowledge and Research Hub in Malaysia produces developmen­t policy research and analytical work on regional and global issues.
