Fire & Rescue Dept confirms replying to widow’s letter
KUALA LUMPUR: The Fire and Rescue Department has confirmed that it has given an explanation and replied to the letter written by Samirah Muzaffar, the widow of Cradle Fund Sdn Bhd (Cradle Fund) chief executive officer Nazrin Hassan who died in a fire in June.
Its director-general Mohammad Hamdan said all dealings between the department and Samirah, in regard to details of the incident at the victim’s house on June 14, were carried out with tact and diplomacy.
“I feel that it is inappropriate to make public statements on the issue as it is currently under investigation by the police.
“In fact, I’m of the view that the comments by the police were clear.
“At the moment, we must give the police the space they need without interfering with or hampering the investigation,” he said yesterday.
He was commenting on Samirah’s recent statement, which criticised the department for not furnishing information in regards to the case.
She said a police report was also lodged against the investigators and over several items missing from the scene, apart from writing to the department requesting for updates on the status of the investigation.
Selangor Criminal Investigation Department chief SAC Fadzil Ahmat had recently confirmed that Samirah was among the people being investigated in relation to the case and had been called to have her statement recorded.
