-

KUALA LUMPUR: Axiata Group’s telecommunications infrastructure services company, edotco Bangladesh Co Ltd (edotco BD), has been selected to obtain a conditional tower-sharing licence from the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission.

The licence will allow edotco BD to build and manage telecom towers for mobile network operators in Bangladesh.

edotco BD has been at the forefront of the country’s tower infrastructure landscape since 2013, providing end-to-end solutions from tower leasing, co-locations, build-to-suit, energy management, transmission and operations and maintenance.

“We are very excited to be selected and look forward to continuing playing a key role in the digital development of the country.

“Towercos (telecom tower companies) are the backbone of the telecommunications industry, and edotco is committed to ensuring the right sharable infrastructure is in place to facilitate the nation’s growth.

“We are confident of fulfilling all the required conditions,” said edotco BD country managing director Rahul Chaudhary in a statement yesterday.

edotco group chief executive officer Suresh Sidhu said the licence would strengthen the company’s position in Asia.

“We are committed to investing in Bangladesh and continuing the positive relationship we have built with the mobile network operators in the country,” he said.

Prominent Bangladesh-based conglomerate Getco recently emerged as major edotco shareholder with a 30 per cent stake.

Getco, via subsidiary Greencon Tower Co Ltd, will partner edotco to provide next-generation infrastructure in Bangladesh.

edotco owns and operates more than 9,000 telecom towers throughout Bangladesh and over 27,000 towers across six countries.

The company recently bagged Frost & Sullivan 2018’s Asia Pacific Telecoms Tower Company of the Year Award.
