Perodua temporarily halts Myvi production
Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) has issued an apology after production of its best-selling model, the Myvi, was temporarily halted due to a supply disruption at one of its vendors,
The disruption has resulted in some 3,000 customers not being able to register their new Perodua Myvi before the end of this month.
“We wish to apologise most sincerely to our customers who have been waiting patiently for their new Myvi,” said Perodua Sales Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk Dr Zahari Husin.
“We take full responsibility for this issue and are putting all the necessary measures in place to ensure that production resumes as soon as possible,” he added.
Zahari added that Perodua was deeply concerned with the frustration of the customers involved, and that the company was working on a suitable form of compensation for them.
He added that the company would get in touch with them via their outlets.
Zahari said for Perodua, the current priority was to deliver the new Myvi to some 3,000 customers originally scheduled to receive their cars before September 1.
He added that allocation for all Myvi orders before June 1 had been completed.
Following the zero-rated Goods and Services Tax (GST), there was a surge in demand for vehicles ahead of the reintroduction of the Sales and Service Tax (SST) on September 1.
Perodua said to date, more than 68,000 of the new Myvi had been delivered to customers. A total of 120,000 bookings were collected since the new hatchback’s launch in November last year, making it consistently Perodua’s best seller to date.
Zahari said Perodua was working hard to remedy the supply disruption and resume Myvi production.
The production of other models have not been affected with deliveries of Axia, Bezza and Alza on track.
“We invite our valued customers to speak to our authorised sales advisors for more information on our models as well as the estimated delivery times of their Myvi,” said Zahari.
