KUALA LUMPUR: The Defence Ministry (Mindef ) has given assurance that the interests of members of the Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT) will be protected following the contract termination of the Automated Enforcement System (AES) project.

Mindef, in a statement yesterday, said the government had agreed to hold further meetings with LTAT involving Transport Ministry (MoT), Finance Ministry, Mindef and Attorney-General’s Chambers to discuss the matter.

“LTAT invested a large amount of money in the implementation of AES.

“The meeting will discuss the le- gal aspects and financial implications of contractual obligations.

“As military personnel contributed to the fund, Mindef gives assurance that the interests of LTAT will be protected,” the statement said.

Mindef said it was aware about arguments among Netizens about the fairness of LTAT’s involvement in AES project and said that a detailed investigation needed to be conducted.

“Mindef is open to any inquiry by the authorities if there are governance issues related to LTAT investment.”

The statement said the cabinet agreed that LTAT took over AES from Beta Tegap Sdn Bhd and ATES Sdn Bhd on Jan 14, 2015.

The concession operated by LTAT is effective from Jan 14, 2015 until Aug 31.

On Aug 17, the government decided that the AES contract, which ends this month, would not be renewed.

The operation, development, maintenance and enforcement of AES would be fully handled by the MoT and Road Transport Department.

The meeting will discuss the legal aspects and financial implications of contractual obligations. As military personnel contributed to the fund, Mindef gives assurance that the interests of LTAT will be protected.
