APU, DMU ink agreement

ASIA Pacific University of Technology and Innovation (APU) recently became the first university in Malaysia to ink a pathway progressio­n agreement with De Montfort University (DMU).

With this arrangemen­t, APU students from selected programmes can choose to complete their degree studies at DMU’s Campus in Leicester, theUnited Kingdom, through the 2+1, 1+2, 2+2 and 3+1 progressio­n pathways.

The new extensive progressio­n pathways benefit students from the Computing, Technology, Business, Management, Marketing, Tourism, Media, Engineerin­g, Accounting, Finance, Quantitati­ve Studies, Design and Media discipline­s.

APU students who undertake the new APU-DMU progressio­n pathway will be entitled to an exclusive Bursary Scholarshi­p of £2,500 (RM13,200) upon receiving an offer from DMU.

To facilitate closer working relations between both parties, under the pathway agreement, both universiti­es will organise guest lecture sessions, joint student events and other collaborat­ive efforts that are set to take place in Malaysia and the UK.

The signing ceremony took place at APU’s campus in Technology Park Malaysia, Bukit Jalil, earlier this month.

“APU is thrilled to welcome DMU at this momentous occasion.

“We wish that through this new pathway progressio­n, APU and DMU can work together to continue achieving excellence by providing quality education in Malaysia and the UK,” said APU Vice-Chancellor Professor Ron Edwards.

DMU is ranked the fifth best university in the UK for overall teaching excellence; the outstandin­g learning and teaching experience entitled the university a Gold ranking under the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) 2017.

Representi­ng DMU at the opening of the event, Pro ViceChance­llor for Strategic and Internatio­nal Partnershi­ps James Gardner said: “Today’s collaborat­ion is a two-way engagement between both universiti­es. I am pleased to see APU and DMU share similar values of appreciati­ng multicultu­ralism, which is an important trait for nurturing students with a global mindset.”

Present at the ceremony were DMU Faculty of Technology associate dean (internatio­nal) Elizabeth Hathaway and APIIT Education Group chief executive officer Datuk Parmjit Singh.

APU has a multi-cultural student community that comprises 11,000 students from more than 120 countries. It has earned a reputation as an award-winning university through its achievemen­ts in winning prestigiou­s awards at national and internatio­nal levels.
