Jose’s job is safe

-

LONDON: Ed Woodward and Jose Mourinho shared a “positive” conversation in the aftermath of United’s 3-0 defeat by Tottenham at Old Trafford on Monday night.

Sportsmail understand that the club’s executive vice chairman, as is normal, headed to the dressing room after Mourinho’s side slipped to the biggest home loss of the Portuguese’s career.

The pair then held a long chat which focused on what was an encouraging first-half performance from United before Spurs took over after the break.

As revealed, sections of United’s board have voiced concerns over what has been a disappointing start to the season.

However, Mourinho retains the backing of the club’s top brass who believe he can turn things around.

And that was clear when Woodward spoke with the manager following the final whistle. Both men were seen engaged a “lengthier than normal” conversation which appeared to be “positive” according to witnesses.

Results will dictate how long Mourinho stays at Old Trafford, however, and additional importance has now been placed on Sunday’s visit to out-of-sorts Burnley.

Another negative result at Turf Moor would raise further question marks over the Portuguese’s future and would see United head for the international break in disarray.
