Decisions soon on HSR, RTS, says S’pore minister
SINGAPORE: Singapore and Malaysia will announce their joint decisions on the Rapid Transit System (RTS) and High-Speed Rail (HSR) projects soon, said Singapore Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan.
Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali has been in the city-state since Wednesday and is believed to have continued discussions with Khaw on the projects.
They last met on Aug 23 in Kuala Lumpur after their first meeting on Aug 11.
“Always delightful meeting Azmin, brainstorming ideas on how to boost our bilateral relationship,” Khaw posted on Facebook yesterday.
“There is so much we can do together for mutual benefits. He is an inspiring leader,” he wrote in his posting, accompanied by two photos of him and Azmin.
Discussions between Singapore and Malaysia on the latter’s request to defer the 350km link connecting Kuala Lumpur and the island city are ongoing.
Singapore recently said the HSR Bilateral Agreement remained in force, unless Singapore and Malaysia mutually agreed to vary it.
Azmin is expected to have a packed schedule here.
“Arrived in Singapore this evening on a tight schedule. Series of meetings set for tomorrow. Thank you for the warm reception, Singapore,” he tweeted.
On Aug 23, Khaw met Transport Minister Anthony Loke in Putrajaya.
They exchanged views on transport issues, including the Johor Baru-Singapore RTS Link and KTMB Bhd Tebrau shuttle service.
