POLICE are looking to record a statement from an individual alleged to be the boyfriend of a woman who was allegedly killed by her husband at their Taman Merbau Indah low-cost flat unit on Tuesday morning.

Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Noorzainy Mohd Noor said the statement was crucial in helping police in their investigations, following claims made by the suspect against the victim.

“We are tracing the individual to have his statement taken to assist in our investigations,” he said yesterday after visiting a police retiree in conjunction with the 61st National Day with Bertam assemblyman Khaliq Mehtab Mohd Ishaq.

Noorzainy said the post-mortem showed the 25-year-old victim was strangled to death by the suspect before she was stabbed with a cleaver.

“He is under a seven-day remand for investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code,” he said.

It was reported that a lorry driver, also 25, suspecting his wife of infidelity, strangled and stabbed her to death at their Taman Merbau Indah low-cost flat unit early Tuesday morning.

The driver then allegedly left the house with their 4-year-old daughter and only returned home late at night.

He then lodged a report, informing the police that he found his wife dead when he returned home about 10pm.

Noorzainy said police who rushed to the scene found the victim covered with a bedsheet in one of the rooms.

He said checks revealed five injuries, two on the right arm, one on the left arm, one on the neck and one on the right hand, leading police to suspect something was amiss. Police found a cleaver with blood stains inside the sink, believed to have been used to attack the victim,” he said.

He added that police arrested the suspect at his house at 2.20am on Wednesday.
