THE scorching sun did not stop the flow of visitors to the last day of Media Prima Bhd’s (MPB) GegaRia festival. Held at the parking lot near the Palace of Justice here, the event saw visitors participating in exciting activities.

Nurul Atiqah Mohd Sapri, 29, from Bangi, came with her husband and three children aged between 2 and 6.

“I got to know about the GegaRia fest here after attending the National Day parade yesterday. So, instead of taking my children to the mall, we decided to come here as there are many activities and food trucks.”

Atiqah said her children were excited to play with the giant soap bubbles.

Another visitor, Roslinda Ab Jalil, 38, came all the way from Banting with her husband, their three children and mother-inlaw.

“I have never been to any GegaRia fest before. I told my husband and he agreed to bring us here.”

She said her children were excited to see the audio-visual exhibition at #KitaPunya Throwback Tunnel.

“They were excited because the images were in black and white and they asked me if people in the past also lived in black and white.”

The Throwback Tunnel was set up by the New Straits Times Press (NSTP) Resource Centre.

The exhibition took visitors on a journey into the nation’s growth since the 1950s, featuring the works of NSTP photographers and quotes of famous figures.

Besides the #KitaPunya Throwback Tunnel, the event was divided into another four zones, namely #KitaPunya Lifestyle, #KitaPunya Esports, #KitaPunya Chillex and #KitaPunya Concert.

This was the eighth GegaRia festival this year.

Among the activities that were lined up were the #KitaPunya Stail make-up session with Farah Farhana, who shared tips on how to apply the “Merdeka Look”, and the #KitaPunya Gemilang health talk with Hanif Shawn and Dr Nawar Ariffin.

The #KitaPunya Stail talk featured Nandini and Zaidi, who discussed what it was like to be Malaysian. Nandini said: “Despite differences in race, religion and food, what makes us ‘us’ is Malaysia.”

During the #KitaPunya Stail session with Elfira Loy, the actress shared her dream of setting up a platform for local designers to showcase their designs under one roof, just like in Thailand.

“We have many local designers who offer good designs. I hope that one day, we will have something similar like in Thailand,” she said.

Other celebrities who shared in the #KitaPunya Budaya session included Mat Dan, Rhys William and Cassidy Anderson.

The event ended at 9pm with a concert by artistes Faizal Tahir, Wany Hasrita, Stacy, Kugiran Masdo, Misha Omar and Bunkface.
