Anwar to side with opposition if govt commits graft

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has declared that he will stand with the opposition if the government commits graft.

Anwar, who is the incoming PKR president and in line to become the next prime minister, said he would give no quarter to those responsible for inefficiency and corruption.

Anwar was speaking at the closing of the Congress on the Future of Bumiputeras and the Nation 2018 yesterday.

He said the opposition would scrutinise the Auditor-General’s Report to uncover anything negative about the government.

“When I was the opposition, I would look through the pages because I wanted to find ammunition against the government. This is also what the opposition will do to us now. We have to be careful (in running the administration).

“This is a reminder to ministers and those responsible in running the government.

“If it is found that there are leakages, I will stand with the opposition against such transgressions.

“I will obtain evidence from National Centre for Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption head Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed and Auditor General Tan Sri Dr Madinah Mohamad,” he said.

On the sale of approved permits (APs) and contracts to third parties, he said the ones who awarded such jobs were also in the wrong.

“If you know these are the people who songlap (loot) APs and contracts, why did you award these (party) branch and division leaders with jobs?”
