ARMED FORCES PERSONNEL, SPOUSES CAST EARLY VOTES
There are a total of 2,770 early voters in in the Seri Setia constituency
ATOTAL of 2,597 armed forces personnel and their spouses, who were part of the early voters in the Seri Setia by-election, began fulfilling their democratic right at 8am yesterday.
They cast their votes at the Ababil Multipurpose Hall of the Subang Air Force Base near here.
A survey by the New Straits Times Press revealed that the early voting process was carried out smoothly.
Present were Pakatan Harapan by-election candidate Halimey Abu Bakar and Pas candidate Dr Halimah Ali.
Election Commission deputy chairman Tan Sri Othman Mahmood arrived at the voting centre at noon.
There were a total of 2,770 early voters in Seri Setia, who included 173 police officers and personnel who cast their votes at the Royal Malaysian Police Specific Material Store Complex here.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission (EC) said the early voting process in Seri Setia, which ended at 5pm, recorded a 77 per cent voter turnout.
“Two early voting centres were opened — Ababil Multipurpose Hall at Subang Airbase for the soldiers and Royal Police Specific Material Storage Complex in TTDI Jaya for the police,” an EC spokeman told NSTP.
The spokesman said 2,597 army personnel and their spouses, and 173 police members were registered as early voters in the constituency.
The Seri Setia seat fell vacant after incumbent assemblyman and Selangor executive councillor Professor Dr Shaharuddin Badaruddin, died on Aug 2 following a battle with cancer.
Shaharuddin won the state seat with a 19,372-vote majority by defeating the candidates from Barisan Nasional Yusoff M Haniff, Pas’ Modh Ghazali Daud and independent candidate S. Vigneswaran.
This by-election will be a straight fight between Halimey and Dr Halimah Ali.
