SINGLE MUM JAILED FOR CHEATING MAN

Siti Norbahiyah issued 3 bounced cheques to victim

ASINGLE mother, who is the owner of property developer Juta Kelulut Global Sdn Bhd, was sentenced to 12 months’ jail by a magistrate’s court here yesterday for cheating a man over a housing project.

Magistrate Mahyun Yusof handed down the sentence on Siti Norbahiyah Yahya, 44, who has five children, after she pleaded guilty to three counts of cheating.

On all the three counts, Siti Norbahiyah was charged with cheating Mohd Nazmi Nazer by issuing him three cheques, one for RM15,000 and the other two cheques for RM17,500 each as payments and then cancelling them.

The offences were committed in Nilai on March 31, April 31 and May 31 last year.

Siti, also known as “Datuk Anggun”, was charged under Section 417 of the Penal Code, which carries an imprisonme­nt of up to five years, or fine, or both, upon conviction.

Mahyun sentenced her to 11 months’ jail for the first charge and 12 months’ jail each for the second and third counts, to be served concurrent­ly from the date of her arrest on Sept 27 last year.

Her lawyer, Noor Azizi Abdull Aziz, said her client’s children were studying in public institutio­ns of higher learning.

Noor Azizi said her client regretted her actions and asked to be given a second chance.

Deputy public prosecutor Nur Akmal Muhammad Azri prosecuted.
