PICTURE this. You want a custommade blouse without having to go to the tailor. In this age of technology, you can do just that without having to leave home. Just order from Malaysia’s The Madeto and you will get a custom-made blouse that perfectly suits your taste and figure.

The Madeto was founded early this year by Kelantan-born entrepreneur Fairus Ayuni

Che Samsudin, 34 (photo, right). The online platform provides custom tailoring services for modest women’s wear and is all about providing convenience to customers. The idea was born out of Fairus’ frustrations in trying to get sizes that fit her off-the-rack.

“Shopping can be frustrating because I always had this problem finding the right size for my height and body type. My mother, sister and best friends also faced this problem.

“Besides, going to the tailor isn’t always convenient due to its location. Sometimes, we may have to make a few trips just to make alterations, fittings and whatnots.

“If your favourite tailor has moved, finding a new tailor can be a hassle. That’s how I came up with The Madeto,” says

Fairus, who has a background in commerce, as well as investment and risk studies. She also studied apparel development to turn her passion in fashion and sewing into a viable garment-making and retailing business.

Inspired by women of all sizes, “Madeto” comes from the words “made to”.

The business concept is to cater to each unique body shape and size in accordance with the wearer’s preferences and personality, says Fairus.

Customers who cannot fit into “free size” items, as well as breastfeeding mothers, would also find this convenient.

“We don’t do bespoke pieces or retail mass-produced ready-to-wear clothes. We offer a range of design templates where customers can choose the cut, fabrics, patterns and details via our online platform and leave the rest to us.

“We’ll take care of everything once the order is placed and will deliver the finished garment to the customers’ doorstep,” she explains, saying the concept is new in Malaysia.

Roping in a small team of local seamstresses, The Madeto offers tailor-made blouses, peplums and dresses. Each order can be finished and delivered within two weeks (or within a week for express order). The price range is between RM140 and RM250.

What happens if the garment still does not fit?

“The customer can email us a photo of them wearing the piece with the highlighted area of concern and send it back to us. We’ll do the alteration for free.

“If it’s beyond amendments or with any defect, we’ll make a new one of the same design, provided that the fabric is still available. Otherwise, the customer may choose another design.

“At The Madeto, we believe in slow fashion and optimising resources. We make clothes according to real demands. So, there’s no such thing as store-filled stock or running out-of-stock, except for the fabrics,” says Fairus.

The Madeto will come up with new design templates, mainly for skirts, pants and children’s clothing, in October. Visit https://themadeto.com for more details.
