‘Museum for Rosmah’s bags will be nice’

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Daim Zainuddin left Kampung Baru folks in stitches during a questionand-answer session with the residents at a town hall meeting yesterday.

Daim, who was responding to a question on land in the area that had been purportedly handed to outsiders, said a plot land in Bandar Malaysia would serve better as a museum of handbags belonging to Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, the wife of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Daim was referring to a plot of land in Bandar Malaysia here said to be earmarked for an airbase.

“It would be nice if they turn the land into a recreational park. They can make a museum for Rosmah’s handbags.”

In late June, it was reported that police had seized 567 designer handbags from residences linked to Najib.

Earlier, Daim reminisced about his days living in Kampung Baru and how he made his fortune.

“I bought a plot of land here for RM600 then.

Later, I sold it for RM17 million when the government wanted to build Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) infrastructure here. So I got rich.”

On an unrelated matter, Daim said CEP had not been disbanded.

“The prime minister (Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad) said CEP still exists.

“(However, for now) they have gone back to their former jobs.”

The council was set up by Dr Mahathir on May 12 to advise the prime minister on socio-economic and financial matters.

Its members include former Bank Negara governor Tan Sri Zeti Akhtar Aziz, former Petronas president and chief executive officer Tan Sri Hassan Merican, billionaire Tan Sri Robert Kuok and economist Dr Jomo Kwame Sundaram.

Last month, Daim said CEP had ended and its final meeting was on Aug 17.
