MMU honours Malaysian archer

MALAYSIAN archer Alang Arif Aqil Muhammad Ghazali was recently honoured by Multimedia University (MMU) for winning bronze for the compound team recently at the 2018 Asian Games.

Alang Arif, who is a student from Faculty of Creative Multimedia in MMU, defeated Taiwan with his team, Lee Kin Lip and Juwaidi Marzuki, with final scoreline of 225-223. The bronze is the archery squad’s first medal at the games.

Alang Arif said the support from the university helped him stay focused and do the best during the competitio­n.

“I am glad that I can contribute to Malaysia. And, of course, I feel extremely honoured for this appreciati­on from the university. I am hoping to improve my performanc­e in future competitio­ns,” he said.

At the event, MMU president Professor Datuk Dr Ahmad Rafi Mohamed Eshaq said universiti­es must look into the larger perspectiv­e of sports for students and offer balance to those who are active in them.

“We believe that all champions must have balanced efforts for achievemen­ts and universiti­es must offer this balance to these students active in sports.

“At MMU, academics and sports excellence are equally important and it is proven that the act of balancing can provide a rewarding experience to students.

“Participat­ing in sports will help student develop more skills and can improve their academic performanc­e,” he added.

Rafi also shared the list of some of MMU students who will take part in upcoming internatio­nal competitio­ns.

Tan Li Fing from the Management Faculty will compete in the 43rd World Chess Olympiad, Georgia, and Asean University Games, Myanmar.

Two other MMU students, Muhammad Khairi Mustaffa and Nurafiff Daniel Zulkahar, will play for the Malaysian team at the Asian University Football Championsh­ip in South Korea.

He added that MMU will also send its dragon boat team to compete at the Asean University Games in Myanmar.

“We hope that the athletes will do their best in the upcoming competitio­n, which will elevate MMU’s name to greater heights,” Rafi added.
