Khairy: More will resign if there is no clear direction

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin reacted to news that Cheras Umno division chief Datuk Seri Syed Ali Al-Habshee had left the party by saying that the upcoming Umno general assembly must serve as a “turning point”.

“If the general assembly fails to provide a clear direction for party members and rakyat, I am worried that more will leave Umno,” the Rembau member of parliament tweeted.

Khairy’s tweet garnered a variety of reactions, ranging from tweets urging him to rally the remaining Umno members to calls for him to leave the party as well.

The majority of the replies to his posting, however, were words of encouragement and support for Umno and messages that hit out at Syed Ali.

Well known for being active on social media, Khairy had tweeted when Umno veterans Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed and Datuk Seri Anifah Aman left the party last week.

When the former announced his resignation, Khairy tweeted: “I have been vocal in cautioning my party against this alliance with Pas.

“And I bore the brunt of attacks from within.

“Now, we have lost a leading light of our party.

“A brilliant and good man. This is on you, Mr President.”

Less than 24 hours later, when Anifah left, he posted a link to a Bernama report on the matter, tweeting just three words: “Sand. Bury. Head.”
