‘PH govt covering up inability to fulfil promises’
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s move to continuously blame the previous government for the country’s large debt and administrative problems is aimed at covering up Pakatan Harapan’s inability to fulfil its 14th General Election (GE14) manifesto.
Umno secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa said PH leaders were using political narrative terminologies to divert the people’s attention after its failure to deliver promises made before GE14.
“This is PH’s ‘shock and awe’ strategy (to cover up) its inabilities.”
He was asked to comment on Dr Mahathir’s statement that the PH government would focus on repairing the damage in the country’s administration machinery and improving the country’s financial position, which was hampered by huge debts.
In a dialogue session with almost 200 Malaysians in the United Kingdom on Sunday, Dr Mahathir said the damage to the country’s finances and administration machinery caused by the previous administration could have destroyed Malaysia had the same party won in GE14.
Annuar said when the PH government failed, it blamed the former government.
He alleged that PH was facing cash flow problems, which included having to pay compensation for deferred projects, due to its populist decisions.
Many decisions made by the PH government resulted in deficit, Annuar said, due to the shortage in cash flow amounting to RM4 billion a month, as well as a drop in investors’ confidence, high prices of goods and high cost of living.
“There is also political uncertainty with one ship having two captains.
“(Datuk Seri) Anwar Ibrahim is calling ministers to tell them how to run their ministries.
“Imagine what will happen after he wins the Port Dickson by-election.”
