PKR will wait for the police to complete its investigation into the fracas involving PKR members at the party’s division elections before deciding on whether any members breached its disciplinary codes.

PKR secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the case was under police investigation and it was awaiting a full report.

He said it would not be suitable for the party to take action against any members now as the police had yet to wrap up their probe.

“If it involves any disciplinary issues, then the party’s disciplinary committee will take action.

“The party has been told that some members have been detained by the police. So let the process run its course first,” said Saifuddin after officiating the Rural Education Tour and Mara Tuition 2018 programme at the Dewan Kolej Mara Kulim here yesterday.

Present were Kedah Mara chairman Yahya Sani and Celcom Axiata Bhd chief corporate officer Zuraida Jamaluddin.

Saifuddin was commenting on a statement by PKR presidentelect Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who said the party would sack any members found to have been involved in fights.

Saifuddin said, to his understanding, Anwar meant that the disciplinary committee could take appropriate action if there were clear-cut breaches of discipline.

Commenting on the ruckus that occurred in several states during the party’s election over the weekend, Saufuddin said improvements would be made to the process in the next election proceedings.

“We will discuss improvements during the weekly political bureau meeting.

“The Central Election Committee will provide its report on the incidents. Further measures will be taken to ensure the voting process in other states run smoothly.

“I will study the full report first from the committee and we will know the exact cause of the commotion,” he said.

He urged the party’s Kedah and Penang members to raise any dissatisfaction with the committee, and their feedback would then be channelled to the political bureau.
