Jerai PKR to submit proof of fracas

-

SUNGAI PETANI: Jerai Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) will submit evidence on the commotion which occurred during the division polls to the party’s election committee and disciplinary board.

The division Youth chief candidate Mohammed Firdaus Johari said he would submit video and pictures of the incident, which took place at Dewan Zhong Hua, SJKC Choong Hwa in Gurun on Saturday.

“We have videos and pictures of those involved and will submit to the PKR election committee and disciplinary board for investigation.

“If found guilty, action should be taken (against the perpetrators),” he said after lodging a police report on the incident at the Kuala Muda district police headquarters on Monday.

Mohammed Firdaus said the election process which started at 11.30am went smoothly until 2.45pm when a group of PKR leaders, consisting members from the division, several others and more than 50 people forcefully made their way into the hall.

“They did not only cause a commotion and chase members away but forced the party election committee to cancel the polls.

“The group threatened and provoked members and candidates present, triggering a tense situation and caused the people to panic,” he said.

He said violent actions that resulted in provocation and chaos were in contradiction to the values instilled among party members.

“We don’t want the culture of gangsterism, violence, being at each other’s throats and beating each other up.

“We view the elections in (the context of ) one family, open contest and democracy, carried on smoothly, would portray a mature PKR that gives every member a fair voice,” he said.

Mohammed Firdaus, who was the division’s former chief said during the incident, more than 100 members had casted their ballots with 500 waiting to vote.

He said 3,200 members were eligible to vote at the Jerai division.
