-

SITI Nor Yuwana Zulkifli, 35, has won the 2018 Raja Kuah Knorr Challenge, thanks to her late mother’s recipe which she lovingly calls “Mum’s Heritage Chicken Curry (Kari Ayam Warisan Bonda)”.

The food operator from Kuala Lumpur also whipped up two other dishes — Sliced Creamy Beef (Masak Lemak Daging Salai Berapi) and Saucy Chicken My Way (Ayam Masak Kicap Cara Saya) — to impress the judges and take home the grand prize of an umrah package for two persons worth RM25,000 plus RM15,000 cash and hampers.

Siti Nor Yuwana says she has her husband to thank — he signed her up for the contest. “I never expected to win,” she adds.

The Raja Kuah Knorr Challenge is a culinary contest to promote a greater appreciation for Malay gravy dishes which have a great following among Malaysians.

After its inaugural introduction in 2016, the event, organised by Unilever Food Solutions (UFS), continues to focus on gravy dishes which constitute most of the dishes served by Malay food operators, mainly as curry, served with soy sauce, turmeric and other spices.

UFS Malaysia managing director Nusrat Perveen says that this year, the company forged a special partnership with NSK Trade City, the largest wholesaler in Malaysia.

The judges for this year’s contest comprised celebrity Chef Mohd Johari Edrus (better known as Chef Jo), UFS chef Mohd Hadzrin Mohd Din and Saji cooking magazine editor Rosmarlinda Kamarudin.

The contestants were judged based on cleanliness, food presentation and taste.

First runnerup was Fazerina Ibrahim, 34, of Selangor. She took home RM10,000 plus a hamper. The second runner up Ali Zainuddin Adnan, 39, who walked away with RM6,000 and a hamper

There were also seven consolation prizes comprising RM1,000 and hampers.
