4M TRAFFIC SUMMONSES YET TO BE SETTLED

Court action, blacklisting of offenders to start after Sept 30

-

KUALA Lumpur City Hall said almost four million traffic summonses it issued, including arrears of notices dating back to 2016, are unpaid.

Of the total, only 104,646 summonses, involving RM3.2 million, were settled since the city council offered a discount to traffic offenders beginning Sept 1.

“To avoid getting hauled up to court and blacklisted by the Road Transport Department (RTD), offenders are advised to pay up their compounds before Sept 30,” Kuala Lumpur City Council Corporate Planning Department director Khairul Azmir Ahmad said yesterday.

He said the process of court action and blacklisting would come into effect after the offer period ended.

Kuala Lumpur City Council had offered compound rates of as low as RM20 to traffic offenders to pay up their compounds on meter parking and other traffic offences.

The compound of RM20 is eligible to motorcyclists; RM30 is charged for owners of cars, multi-purpose vehicles, vans, small lorries, pickups, four wheel drive vehicles and sports utility vehicles; and RM50 is charged to operators of heavy vehicles, such as lorries, buses, cranes, tractors and trailers.

The rates did not apply to offenders who had been blacklisted and undergoing court cases, court mention or had warrants of arrest issued, Khairul added.

Payment can be settled at several locations, including Kuala Lumpur City Hall kiosks, post offices, via its mobile application, as well as www.myeg.com or ebayar.
