SHE had intended to sell a pair of baju kurung on a shopping website, but a 21-year-old woman ended up forking out RM28,980, to recover the money from the sale of the attire, which costs RM120.

State Commercial Crime Investigation Department head Superintendent Mohd Wazir Mohd Yusof said the incident took place after the woman, who lives in Bukit Setongkol here, placed an advertisement to sell the garment on the website at 4.43pm on Tuesday.

“Soon after advertising the item, the victim received a reply in the comment section from a Sazulyana, who expressed an interest in buying the baju kurung for RM120.

“The victim contacted her and gave her bank account number for payment.

“However, the suspect asked the victim to make other payments before the former could get the RM120.

“The victim received a copy of a supposed slip from a foreign bank that showed that the suspect had transferred a sum of money to her account.

“The suspect claimed that she could not transfer the payment of the baju kurung to the victim’s bank account as she was abroad.

“The victim was asked to pay a fee for the money transfer,” he said.

Wazir said the victim transferred RM28,980 to two bank accounts in five transactions.

“The victim realised that she was duped as she did not receive the money for the baju kurung as promised, even after following the suspect’s instructions.

“She then lodged a report at the Kuantan police district headquarters yesterday (Wednesday),” he said, adding that the case was being investigated under 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
