AMAN was sentenced to death by the High Court here after being found guilty of murdering the wife of a policeman three years ago.

His 20-year-old friend, a juvenile at the time the murder was committed, was sentenced to be held in prison “at the pleasure of the Ruler”.

Judicial Commissioner Asmadi Hussin meted out the sentences on A. Nagarajun, 22, and his friend, whose name should not be published due to the fact that he was underage three years ago.

According to the facts of the case, Nagarajun and his friend had killed Izaah Abdullah, 52, at No. 9, Laluan Tanjung 4, Taman Tanjung Emas, Ulu Kinta, Ipoh, between 12.30am and 2am on Feb 11, 2015.

They were both charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries a mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

In meting out the sentence, Asmadi said the defence had failed to create reasonable doubt in the case.

He said the statements of witnesses had pointed to the fact that the duo had committed the murder.

“The first accused (the juvenile) was 16 years old then and so the court cannot mete out the death sentence. Therefore, the court orders that he will be held at the pleasure of the Ruler.

“As for the second accused (Nagarajun), the court orders that he will be hanged by the neck until dead,” he said.

Deputy public prosecutor Mohd Azrul Faidz appeared for the government while Nagarajun and the juvenile were represented by Datuk Naran Singh and Ranjit Singh, respectively.

The victim’s only son, Zulfadhli Sallehuddin, 30, said he was satisfied with the sentence handed down by the court.

“Our family was traumatised by what happened and we no longer live in the house where my mother’s murder took place as there are too many memories there,” he said after proceedings.
