Couple sent to gallows for murdering man three years ago

AYER KEROH: A couple were sent to the gallows by the High Court here after they were found guilty of murdering a man three years ago.

Judge Datuk Siti Khadijah S Hassan Barjenid made the decision after the prosecutio­n succeeded in establishi­ng a prima facie case against Firdaus Abdul Karim from Kandang and Nur Fatiha Saqira Mohd Tahir from Segamat, Johor, both 22.

The lovebirds appeared calm when the sentence was meted out.

According to the charge sheet, the couple were charged with murdering Muhamamd Azzad Suhani Hilalludin, 27, along the stretch between Jalan BMU 2 and the sewage plant in Bandar Baru Merlimau Utara at Jasin.

The crime was committed a 11.30pm on Dec 31 2014 until 1am on Jan 1 2015.

The duo were charged under Sections 302 and 34 of the Penal Code, which carries a death sentence by hanging.

Deputy public prosecutor­s Badius Zaman Ahmad and Shazreen Nadia Saaban prosecuted, while the duo were represente­d by lawyers L.K. Tiew and Mak Kah Keong.

Based on the fact sheets, Nur Fatihah was having a cyber affair with the victim since she was in Form 3, but the relationsh­ip drifted apart when she enrolled in a higher learning institute here.

At the night of the murder, the victim, a contract worker, came down from Perak to surprise Nur Fatihah, who was already in a relationsh­ip with Firdaus.

Nur Fatihah called the victim and lured him to the crime scene.

Acting on a fit of jealousy, Firdaus stabbed Muhammad Azzad repeatedly and fatally with a knife.
