TMJ TAKES A DIG AT SYED SADDIQ OVER REMARKS ON DR M

- By Rizalman Hammim

JOHOR BARU: Tunku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim hit out at Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman for his glowing tribute to Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“Perfectionist? It’s either you’re delusional or obsessed. You were still in your mother’s belly, kid. Do some research,” Tunku Ismail wrote in a posting on his official Twitter page.

Although he did not mention any names, Tunku Ismail seemed to have aimed the statement at Syed Saddiq, who had called Dr Mahathir a perfectionist in a posting on his Facebook page.

In the posting, Syed Saddiq had dismissed criticisms that the prime minister’s United Nations General Assembly speech recently was all scripted and not prepared by him.

Recalling his experience working for Dr Mahathir, Syed Saddiq said the prime minister was the master of his own work

“He writes his own speeches. He writes his own blogposts. He even does a lot of the research work on his own.

“Based on that experience, I feel compelled to tell the story behind Malaysia’s most notorious perfectionist, our beloved Tun Mahathir,” Syed Saddiq wrote in the posting.

Following Tuanku Ismail’s criticism, Syed Saddiq responded with an apology.

“Ampun Tunku. If we keep on looking backwards, we will never be able to move forward. Patik (I) will always pray for Tunku’s wellbeing,” he wrote in his Twitter account yesterday night.

Syed Saddiq had previously angered the Johor palace in 2016 when he wrote an open letter criticising Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar following his decree against street protests in Johor.

However, the issue was resolved after Sultan Ibrahim granted Syed Saddiq an audience.
