Anwar: I only go to temples to attend events

-

PORT DICKSON: Incoming PKR president, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim did not bat an eyelid on the statement made by Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, who had labelled him as someone who couldn’t be trusted as a Muslim and a leader.

“That is his (Hadi) personal view.

“When we were together in Pakatan Rakyat, it was never an issue.

“In fact, a lot of Pas members joined similar programmes (visiting places of worship during the campaign period).

“What matters most is that we know what we are doing.

“I didn’t go to the temples to pray. I was only attending events held there,” he said at the PH operational centre here yesterday.

Hadi, on Sunday, described Anwar, who is contesting the Port Dickson parliamentary by-election under the Pakatan Harapan ticket, as being inconsistent in his Islamic practice after he was seen visiting places of worship to campaign for the by-election.

Anwar said, he would continue to visit other places of worship, including mosques, despite Hadi’s remarks.

On Hadi’s proposal to allow Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to serve a full five-year term, Anwar said, he appreciated Hadi’s concern towards Mahathir.

“He (Hadi) surely loves Mahathir so much.

“But then again, that’s his personal view.

“I realise many attempts have been made to prevent me from becoming the prime minister.

“Dr Mahathir has made his stance clear and that’s all that matters.”
