AZMIN LEADS IN POLLS

He obtains 16,318 votes, Rafizi gets 16,226 in contest for No. 2

INCUMBENT PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali is ahead of Rafizi Ramli by 92 votes in the contest for the party’s No. 2 post. After three weeks and five states, Azmin has secured 16,318 votes, and Rafizi 16,226 votes.

Rafizi gained ground after winning the party polls in the East Coast states of Kelantan and Terengganu on Friday as well as Pahang on Saturday.

The outgoing PKR vice-president secured 5,211 votes from 14 branches in Kelantan, edging out Azmin, who obtained 4,922 votes.

Rafizi, who is a former Pandan member of parliament, won in nine divisions including Bachok, Pengkalan Chepa and Pasir Mas.

His winning streak continued in Terengganu, where he secured 1,506 votes compared with Azmin’s 1,269.

In Penang, Azmin, who is economic affairs minister, obtained a razor-thin victory over Rafizi, getting 3,326 votes compared with the latter’s 3,150 votes, with only 176 votes proving to be the difference.

Azmin won in Kepala Batas, Batu Kawan, Nibong Tebal, Bukit Bendera, Tanjong, Jelutong, Bayan Baru and Bukit Mertajam while Rafizi won in Permatang Pauh, Bagan, Tasek Gelugor, Bukit Gelugor and Balik Pulau.

Azmin had secured a bigger majority in Johor, when he obtained 4,234 votes compared with Rafizi’s 3,759.

In the Pahang leg of the polls, Rafizi secured a 85-vote majority. He secured 2,383 votes while Azmin garnered 2,298 votes in the polls involving 14 divisions state-wide.

Rafizi secured victory in Kuantan, Indera Mahkota, Cameron Highlands, Bera, Paya Besar,Jerantut, Maran and Rompin.

Azmin won in six divisions, namely Raub, Pekan, Kuala Krau, Lipis, Bentong and Temerloh.
