Malaysia’s National Day celebration in Myanmar
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Embassy in Yangon, Myanmar, and its Ladies Association, Perwakilan Yangon, recently joined hands with #AnakAnakMalaysia in Yangon to celebrate Malaysia’s 61st National Day.
The #SayangiMalaysiaku was celebrated with a social responsibility initiative named “Jalinan Kasih” (spreading love).
The initiative was part of continuous efforts by the embassy and the Malaysian community in Yangon, Myanmar, in giving back to the local community with cooperation from various partners in Myanmar.
The Muslim Free Hospital, located at the Mahabandoola Park Road, Yangon, is the beneficiary of the 61st National Day Jalinan Kasih project.
The hospital, established in 1937, is well known for its efforts in providing free medical care for outpatients and inpatients, especially the poor people in Myanmar. Last year, more than 73,000 patients sought treatment there, with most of them being nonMuslims.
Jalinan Kasih received overwhelming support from the Malaysian community in Myanmar.
These included the Malaysian Association of Myanmar, Malaysian Business Chamber, Petronas Carigali in Myanmar, Mamee-Double Decker, Mercy Malaysia Myanmar, Wyndham Grand Yangon Hotel, Malaysian Visa One Stop Centre, Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council and FoodFare Restaurant.
The contributions by #AnakAnakMalaysia to the Muslim Free Hospital amounted to eight million kyats (RM25,000).
It included 4.81 million kyats in cash, three wheelchairs, blood pressure monitoring machines, digital thermometers, ear torchlights, 360 packets of instant noodles from Mamee, insulin injections and other medicines.
Traditional Malaysian savouries, prepared by Perwakilan Yangon, were distributed to the hospital staff and patients.
With positive response to the Jalinan Kasih initiative, the embassy is optimistic to undertake outreach projects.
