FT MINISTRY PAYING BACK LAND BUYERS RM120 MILLION
Reacquisition of land part of future investments, says FT minister
THE Federal Territories Ministry’s Special Committee has allocated RM120 million to repay buyers in 10 cancelled transactions involving the sale of Kuala Lumpur City Hall land.
The 10 transactions were part of 97 land transactions cancelled since Sept 13, said Federal Territories Minister Khalid Samad.
He said the 10 land transactions involved 14ha.
They were cancelled on the advice of the special committee comprising City Hall and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), said Khalid.
He said MACC was probing into the remaining land transactions.
“There are 23 transactions being renegotiated to recover the money, the amount of which will be announced tomorrow (today).”
He said 97 transactions involving the sale of City Hall land worth RM5.63 billion were being investigated.
In addition to the 10 cancelled transactions, 23 other land transactions were successfully renegotiated, one taken to court, while the 43 others saw their sales being carried through.
Khalid said details of transactions on 20 plots of land that had their ownership transferred were handed to MACC for investiga tions.
He said reacquisition of the land was part of City Hall’s future investments.
He said this after launching the Run for the Deaf 2018 programme in conjunction with KL Car-Free Morning here yesterday.
He said special compound rates offered to traffic offenders to settle their summonses was met with lukewarm response as City Hall collected only RM2 million throughout the discount period last month.
“We had targeted at least RM100 million from payments of arrears for traffic summonses totalling RM1 billion.”
It was reported that City Hall had, since 2006, issued four million notices for unpaid traffic offences. Summons payment can be made at City Hall kiosks, post offices, via the City Hall mobile app, www.myeg.com.my or City Hall e-bayar payment portal.
