SMOOTH PKR POLLS AFTER E-VOTING GLITCH
Party election in Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang went well, says sec-gen
IT has been smooth sailing for the PKR election in three states after the rectification of its e-voting system. Party secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the rectified e-voting system was used for the party election in Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang and it went well.
“This was different on the first day in Penang and Kedah, which saw a chaotic situation. However, in subsequent election rounds in the three states, it was relatively calm.
“This proves that our system is good. When the Central Election Committee streamlined the effectiveness of the role played by party workers, then the system worked out smoothly,” he said here yesterday.
The polls took place in the Federal Territories of Kuala
Lumpur (Batu, Wangsa
Maju, Segambut, Setiawangsa, Titiwangsa and Bukit Bintang divisions) and Labuan yesterday.
Saifuddin, who is domestic trade and consumer affairs minister, said the election would proceed more smoothly if all candidates and voters practised discipline and adhered to the rules set by the committee.
The implementation of the e-voting system was to ensure speedy voting process involving more than 800,000 PKR members nationwide.
PKR had used manual voting in the past two party elections before the introduction of the evoting system.
The use of the e-voting system kicked off in Kedah and Penang on Sept 22.
However, the first round of elections with the e-system saw delays at divisional polling centres in Kedah, forcing polls in Perlis, Perak, Negri Sembilan and Melaka to be postponed.
