AFTER bagging his fourth consecutive Mr Asia title on Saturday, Syarul Azman Mike Mahen has now set his sights on continuing his dominance at the world level.

Syarul said his win in the men’s athletic physique up to 170cm (below 71kg) category at the Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championships in Pune, India has given him a timely boost in confidence.

“It (Asian Championships) was a very tough competition,” said the 45-year-old former national youth footballer yesterday.

“Bodybuilders from Iran and Vietnam were very strong this time while the athletes from India were also impressive.

“But thankfully I still managed to win it. It definitely gives me added motivation ahead of the world meet.”

Syarul, whose football career was hampered by knee injuries, won his world titles in 2016 and last year.

The World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championships will be held in Chiang Mai, Thailand on Dec 11-17.

“I want to win it again,” added Syarul. “I will return to Malaysia (from India) tomorrow and will resume training for the world meet.

“It is important for me to maintain my consistency and also pay close attention to my diet and nutrition.”

Syarul also thanked the National Athletes Welfare Foundation, National Sports Institute, National Sports Council and the Sports Ministry for their support.
