Chong Wei itching to get back in action

- Jumiati Rosly

men’s singles champion Lee Chong Wei who was forced to hang up his racket for the time being to undergo treatment after being diagnosed with early stage nose cancer has stressed that he can’t wait to get back on court.

The former World No 1 said as much to former Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin who paid him a visit yesterday.

Khairy had uploaded a picture of Chong Wei and himself on his Instagram account with Chong Wei looking in good spirits after returning to Malaysia from Taiwan last Sunday where he underwent medical treatment at a private hospital there for more than two months.

“I came to visit this champion today (Friday). He returned after six weeks of cancer treatment in Taiwan.

“It looks to me like he has lost about 5 kilograms. The doctor’s prognosis has been both good and encouraging.

“He will need to regain his strength and allow his immune system to get better and stronger,” said Khairy on his Instagram post.

Khairy added that he was happy to see Chong Wei being in such good spirits and having completed his medical treatment without any complications.

“Malaysia prays that you get well as soon as possible and make a full, speedy recovery!” Khairy added.

Before this, there were a lot of question marks and speculation regarding Chong Wei’s future in the sport, as to whether he would be able to make a return after being diagnosed with early stage nose cancer.
