Police may call up politicians over report lodged by Najib’s aide

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Police will call up several politicians if necessary after a police report was lodged by former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s aide at the Sentul district police headquarters on Friday.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said the report was made to allow for action to be taken against several politicians with regards to allegations made.

“Following normal procedure, when a report is made, we will investigate.

“The report was just lodged.

“If there is a need, we will call up several politicians to have their statements recorded,” he said on the sidelines of the force’s National Sports Day celebration at Puteri Harbour Marina here yesterday.

Najib’s aide had made a police report asking the authorities to reopen the investigations into allegations of several murder cases.

The report called for the police to probe the allegations made against Najib, including the murders of Mongolian model Altantuya Shaariibuu and deputy public prosecutor Datuk Anthony Kevin Morais.

It also stated that police should call DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang to provide information and additional statements on the cases.

Earlier, Najib said the decision to ask his aide to lodge a police report against him was made after Lim failed to get the authorities to investigate the allegations.

He said Lim had attempted to confuse the people, including DAP supporters, by claiming that he had said there was no need for the cases to be investigated anymore.

“Since the cases have been thoroughly investigated, I urge the police to call (DAP adviser) Lim Kit Siang to provide information and additional statements on the said cases.

“If Lim is sincere and holds firm to the rule of law and has additional information as he had imagined, which will assist the course of justice, I recommend he include the claim and additional information in a statutory declaration so that police can take the matter seriously.”

“Based on the information given, I would like to ask the police to reopen the cases,” the aide was quoted as saying in the police report.

Following normal procedure, when a report is made, we will investigate. The report was just lodged.
