Ex-In­done­sian pres­i­dent Susilo re­ceives hon­orary doc­tor­ate

PUTRAJAYA: For­mer In­done­sian pres­i­dent Susilo Bam­bang Yud­hoy­ono was awarded the Hon­orary Doc­tor­ate of Man­age­ment at the 15th Kuala Lumpur Univer­sity Convocation (UniKL) here yes­ter­day.

The doc­tor­ate was pre­sented by UniKL Chan­cel­lor Pa­hang Re­gent Tengku Ab­dul­lah Sul­tan Ah­mad Shah at the Putrajaya In­ter­na­tional Con­ven­tion Cen­tre.

Tengku Ab­dul­lah said the doc­tor­ate was to hon­our Susilo’s ded­i­ca­tion and con­tri­bu­tion in es­tab­lish­ing in­ter­na­tional, hu­man­i­tar­ian and ed­u­ca­tional re­la­tions in Asean.

He urged grad­u­ates to equip them­selves with skills to com­pete in a glob­alised world and in an era of in­dus­trial rev­o­lu­tion.

“Grad­u­ates need to in­cul­cate high in­tegrity.”

Present were Ma­jlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) chair­man Has­nita Hashim, Mara di­rec­tor-gen­eral Datuk Azhar Ab­dul Manaf and UniKL pres­i­dent and chief ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer Pro­fes­sor Datuk Dr Ma­zli­ham Mohd Su’ud.

For­mer Mara deputy direc­torgen­eral (ed­u­ca­tion) Datuk Azmi Mo­hamad was also awarded the Hon­orary Doc­tor­ate of Man­age­ment in recog­ni­tion of his role and con­tri­bu­tion in the de­vel­op­ment of UniKL, Mara and the coun­try.

Tengku Ab­dul­lah said 16 years af­ter UniKL’s es­tab­lish­ment, the convocation cre­ated his­tory when the univer­sity ap­pointed two women pro-chan­cel­lors, Ru­ral De­vel­op­ment Min­is­ter Datuk Seri Rina Mohd Harun and Has­nita, for the first time.

Twenty-seven out­stand­ing grad­u­ates re­ceived awards at the convocation. More than 7,800 grad­u­ates from 12 UniKL cam­puses re­ceived their scrolls at the four-day event.
