Ex-Indonesian president Susilo receives honorary doctorate
PUTRAJAYA: Former Indonesian president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was awarded the Honorary Doctorate of Management at the 15th Kuala Lumpur University Convocation (UniKL) here yesterday.
The doctorate was presented by UniKL Chancellor Pahang Regent Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.
Tengku Abdullah said the doctorate was to honour Susilo’s dedication and contribution in establishing international, humanitarian and educational relations in Asean.
He urged graduates to equip themselves with skills to compete in a globalised world and in an era of industrial revolution.
“Graduates need to inculcate high integrity.”
Present were Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) chairman Hasnita Hashim, Mara director-general Datuk Azhar Abdul Manaf and UniKL president and chief executive officer Professor Datuk Dr Mazliham Mohd Su’ud.
Former Mara deputy directorgeneral (education) Datuk Azmi Mohamad was also awarded the Honorary Doctorate of Management in recognition of his role and contribution in the development of UniKL, Mara and the country.
Tengku Abdullah said 16 years after UniKL’s establishment, the convocation created history when the university appointed two women pro-chancellors, Rural Development Minister Datuk Seri Rina Mohd Harun and Hasnita, for the first time.
Twenty-seven outstanding graduates received awards at the convocation. More than 7,800 graduates from 12 UniKL campuses received their scrolls at the four-day event.
