- Fadhli Ishak

trio racing in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) — Jazeman Jaafar, Nabil Jeffri and Weiron Tan — continued their fine form in the series after qualifying second in class at the Six Hours of Fuji yesterday.

Driving for Jackie Chan DC Racing X Jota in the LMP2 category, the three clocked an average time of one minute and 29.203 seconds in their No 37 Oreca 07 car at the famed Fuji Speedway circuit.

Dragonspeed’s No 31 car with Pastor Maldonado, Anthony Davidson and Roberto Gonzales took pole averaging a time of 1:28.906s, while DC Racing’s No 38 car with Gabriel Aubry, Stephane Richelmi and Ho Pin Tung were third after clocking 1:29.294s.

Lead driver Jazeman is optimistic ahead of today’s race, which is the fourth round of the WEC this season. They had finished second during the previous round in Silverstone back in August.

“All in all, qualifying was a strong result for us. The track conditions had evolved with more grip than we had expected,” said the 25-year-old.

“The focus now turns to having a good race tomorrow (today), as we have the car to do it in and the right team to do it as well.”

Nabil is hoping they can win their first WEC race this year, but he is aware of the strong field of competition that they will have to face.

“We have to work very hard in the race because everyone in the top-five has a chance of winning, as all have shown they are more than capable of keeping a strong pace. But I am confident that we can do well,” stressed Nabil.

After three rounds, the trio are currently third in the overall standings with 61 points.

Signatech Alpine Matmut’s Nicolas Lapierre, Pierre Thiriet and Andre Negrao lead the standings with 72 points while DC Racing’s Pin Tung, Aubry and Richelmi are second on 68 points.
