Camerons MP pledges to resolve issue
KUALA LUMPUR: Cameron Highlands member of parliament Datuk C. Sivarraajh will turn to the Dewan Rakyat to resolve once and for all the problem of illegal development, especially in the hillslopes of his parliamentary constituency.
The MIC elected representative said he had to seek the support of the august house to avoid recurrences of the landslides, including yesterday’s, which killed three people, at Batu 49, Kampung Tiga, Kuala Terla, in the highland district.
Apart from raising the matter during the q u e stion—and— a n swe r session,
Sivarraajh also planned to meet four relevant ministers over the problem —
Water,
Land and
Natural
Resources Minister Dr A. Xavier Jayakumar; Energy, Technology, Science, Climate Change and Environment Minister Yeo Bee Yin; Rural Development Minister Datuk Seri Rina Harun; and Works Minister Baru Bian.
“It is complicated but I am committed to solving this prolonged problem ... I need to put an end once and for all to this,” he said.
Since he was elected as the Cameron Highlands MP in the 14th General Election on May 9, Sivarraajh said he had convened meetings to address landslides and traffic matters in his constituency.
Despite efforts carried out by several agencies, he said many people chose to stay in the area and refused to abide by the rules and security precautions laid out by the authorities.
“It’s human mistakes that have caused such incidents, not only costing people their safety but also their lives.
“I will continue to meet relevant agencies until we have a solution that addresses the problems,” he added.
