THE Umno president has been told to go to the MACC HQ today at 3pm, and is ‘expected’ to be charged tomorrow, says a party leader. It is understood he is likely to face charges under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 as well as the MACC Act 2009.

UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is expected to be charged tomorrow. He has received a notice to appear at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission headquarters in Putrajaya at 3pm today and will be charged tomorrow.

Umno Supreme Council member Lokman Noor Adam, in revealing this, called on the people, particularly Umno leaders and party members, to attend the #Solidariti4PresidenUMNO gathering at the MACC headquarters at 9pm today and 8am tomorrow at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court.

“Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, president of Umno, has been given a notice of surrender at 1.45pm today (yesterday).

“He needs to be present at the MACC headquarters at 3pm tomorrow (today) and is expected to be charged on Friday,

“Let us come to the defence of our president, who is a target of the cruel Mahathir-DAP regime. Do not let our president stand alone,” he said in a statement.

It is understood from Zahid’s inner circle that he had been investigated under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (Amla) as well as Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009, which deals with abuse of power. He is likely to face several charges for alleged offences under the acts.

The former deputy prime minister was summoned by the antigraft agency for three straight days last week in connection with alleged misappropriation of Yayasan Akal Budi funds.

According to reports, Zahid had been asked to explain claims that RM800,000 in Yayasan Akal Budi funds were used to pay credit card bills belonging to him and his wife.

Zahid is the chairman of the foundation, which was set up in 1977 with the aim to eradicate poverty. He has denied any wrongdoing, saying his officer had mistakenly used the foundation’s money to pay the credit card bills.
