DPM to lead Malaysian delegation at ASEM summit
PUTRAJAYA: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail will lead the Malaysian delegation at the twoday 12th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Summit in Brussels, Belgium, tomorrow.
She will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah and senior officials from the ministry.
Themed “Global Partners for Global Challenges”, ASEM leaders will deliberate on key regional and in- ternational issues of mutual concern, as well as discuss measures that can be undertaken to strengthen the partnership between Asia and Europe.
Wisma Putra said Dr Wan Azizah was scheduled to deliver Malaysia’s statement at the Second Plenary Session with the theme “Reinforcing the Multilateral System: Advancing the ASEM Partnership on Global Challenges”.
“The 12th ASEM Summit is expected to adopt the Chair’s Statement, which will outline ASEM’s commitment and aspiration for closer cooperation among Member Partners under the three pillars of ASEM: the political, economic and socio-cultural pillars,” it said yesterday.
It also said Dr Wan Azizah would hold bilateral meetings with her counterparts, including Belgium Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and Security Jan Jambon, to discuss issues of common interest.
Wisma Putra said Saifuddin would be meeting his counterpart, Belgium Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders to discuss issues of mutual concern and interests.
Saifuddin was also scheduled to deliver a remark at a forum organised by the European Institute for Asian Studies yesterday.
