LKL to boost manufacturing capacities

-

KUALA LUMPUR: LKL International Bhd will invest in new manufacturing capacities to support the growing requirements of public and private healthcare, said managing director Lim Kon Lian.

He said LKL planned to enhance its manufacturing facilities in Seri Kembangan, Selangor by building a four-storey steel structure.

“We expect to complete this by 2021. This will boost our capacity to scale up production,” he said in a statement.

Lim said the new structure would require an estimated capital expenditure of RM6.7 million and would increase the total built-up area of the manufacturing plant to 129,140 sq ft from 91,740 sq ft currently.

The additional space will allow LKL to install a conveyor line to partially automate its epoxy powder coating process to improve productivity.

“The new structure will also increase storage area for inventory, which will allow the group to fulfil larger orders,” said Lim.

The extension is expected to be operational in the third quarter ending April 30 2021.

LKL also plans to add new medical products to its portfolio.

It is hopeful that the 2019 Budget will include initiatives to enhance healthcare services.

Malaysia’s density of hospital beds lagged behind the international standard of 2.5 hospital beds per 1,000 people. The country provided 1.9 hospital beds per 1,000 people in 2015.

“There is a significant gap to close in Malaysia’s hospital bedto-population ratio to ensure that Malaysians have access to quality healthcare,” said Lim.
