JAYA GROCER OPENS FIRST PENANG STORE
Grocery chain plans to open 3 more outlets by March next year
JAYA Grocer will open another three new outlets between now and March next year as part of its expansion drive. Two of the new outlets will be sited in the Klang Valley while the third will be in the south.
Jaya Grocer founder Teng Yew Huat said it planned to open three to five outlets a year.
“We are constantly eyeing new areas to open our stores to cater to more customers. The next few months will be an exciting time for us and we are anticipating a tight schedule,” he said at the opening of Jaya Grocer’s outlet at the Gurney Paragon Mall, its first in Penang, here, yesterday.
Also present were Jaya Grocer operations director Daniel Teng and Hunza Group founder Datuk Seri Khor Teng Tong.
Built at a cost of RM6 million (excluding the merchandise), the new store, its 28th in total, has a floor space of 25,000 sq ft.
About 4,000 sq ft is reserved for food and beverage outlets and customers will be able to enjoy its signature “cook-for-you” service once the Grocer Canteen opens by year-end.
This is Jaya Grocer’s first foray into the upper northern region.
It had opened a store in Ipoh two years ago.
Teng said the new store in Gurney Paragon Mall would open up another new avenue for grocery shopping in the state.
“This, personally, is our best located store and among the five larger stores.
“Gurney Paragon Mall is special to us due to its good tenant mix and conducive location,” he said, adding that he had always had Penang in mind but there was no suitable location for an outlet in the past.
Jaya Grocer is a family-run lifestyle fresh market operated by Trendcell Sdn Bhd.
It started at Jaya 33 in 2008 and is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.
