Committee to study education policies

KUALA LUMPUR: The Education Ministry has set up a 13-member National Education Policy Committee comprising experts to study education policies.

Members of the committee received their letters of appointmen­t from Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik at the Parliament building yesterday.

The appointmen­ts are for six months, from this month to April.

“The committee will give a recommenda­tion based on independen­t research on education policies,” said Maszlee after the ceremony.

The committee will study the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013-2025 (pre-school until secondary education) and the 20152025 Malaysia Education Developmen­t Plan (Higher Education), with the cooperatio­n of the National Education Advisory Council.

The committee members, led by Malaysian Associatio­n for Education and Malaysian Society of Education Administra­tion and Management president Professor Emeritus Datuk Dr Ibrahim Ahmad Bajunid, have expertise in education policies, management training, Science, Technology, Engineerin­g and Mathematic­s (STEM), educationa­l technology and arts.

The other members are Hasrizal Abdul Jamil from Khalifah Model School, former Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia lecturer Dr Madeline Berma, former Universiti Malaya lecturer Professor Dr Juli Edo, Kolej Universiti Islam Antarabang­sa rector Professor Datuk Dr Ab Halim Tamuri, former member of the Khazanah board Yeo Kar Peng, Microsoft national technology officer Dr Dzaharudin Mansor, and Universiti Sains Malaysia senior lecturer Janet Pillai.

Others include Associatio­n of Science, Technology and Innovation founder Dr Mohamed Yunus Mohamed, Kinderkaiz­en and Sri Aria Elementary School founder Dr Putri Afzan Maria Zulkifli, Young Scientist Network chairman Professor Dr Abhi Veerakumar­asivam, Universiti Teknologi Petronas Associate Professor Dr Mohd Tazli Azizan and Global School Leaders’ Cheryl Ann Fernando.

Present was Deputy Education Minister Teo Nie Ching.
