Azmin and Rafizi supporters in PKR polls’ clash

POLICE intervene after fights break out at the Puchong and Gombak polling centres.

THE PKR election in Selangor was again marred by chaos, this time in two of the six divisions here. Several videos went viral, showing party members, believed to be supporters of Datuk Seri Azmin Ali and Rafizi Ramli, at each others’ throat during the phase two of the party polls held yesterday.

Several policemen at the venues for Puchong and Gombak PKR division elections were forced to intervene to bring the situation under control.

In Gombak, a source at the location claimed a fracas started when a man got angry upon seeing his father being pushed by several people.

He said the chaos ensued at 12.30pm when some people stopped the division chief candidate from entering the hall.

He claimed that a brawl then broke out.

“Some supporters came. I’m not sure who landed the first punch. It got really bad. The man was dragged away by police.”

A police source revealed that no arrest was made in Gombak.

In Puchong, chaos erupted at 2.30pm when two groups of supporters clashed at the main entrance of the polling centre at Subang Jaya Municipal (MPSJ) hall in Seri Kembangan.

However, the situation was brought under control by Light Strike Force personnel and police at the scene. NTV7 reporter Ridhuan Hussain said the crowd turned violent when some members, who had been waiting for more than three hours, forced their way into the polling centre.

He said in the process, some of them fell and fainted after being stepped on.

“Some party members lost their cool after being made to wait, with others blamed the weak election management.

“Some attempted forced entry, while some decided against voting and left the place,” Ridhuan tweeted yesterday.
