Melaka, Negri results withheld due to glitch

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The results of yesterday’s PKR election in Melaka and Negri Sembilan have yet to be revealed due to technical difficulties, PKR Central Selection Committee chairman Datuk Rashid Din said.

He said an issue with the party’s official election website prevented the results from being published.

“We are trying to solve the problem and we hope that the results can be uploaded by this evening (yesterday) at the latest, along with results from seven divisions in Selangor and Perlis.”

The PKR election for Negri Sembilan and Melaka took place on Saturday.

Voting was conducted in eight divisions in Negri Sembilan and involved 14,788 eligible voters, while Melaka saw 9,387 eligible voters in six divisions select leaders for the central and divisional leadership.

The Central Selection Committee is looking for 2,000 votes reported “missing”.

This incident involved five out of six PKR divisions in Melaka.

State PKR chairman Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin said the disappearance of 60 per cent of the votes that were done through the e-voting system was shocking as it hindered the final count for the party selection.

“Last night (Saturday), I was in Negri Sembilan until 3am with the technical team to investigate the missing votes.

“At the Jasin division, the percentage of voter turnout was high but the result that was counted was only 40 per cent,” he told the New Straits Times Press yesterday.

The six PKR divisions that finished their voting through the evoting system in Melaka on Saturday were Masjid Tanah, Alor Gajah, Tangga Batu, Bukit Katil, Kota Melaka and Jasin.

Reformasi 20 Tahun group led by Rafizi Ramli reportedly was ahead of Datuk Seri Azmin Ali for the PKR deputy president post in the unofficial count in the six divisions on Saturday.

In his Twitter post, Rafizi claimed to have gained 55 per cent of votes in Melaka and 52 per cent of votes in Negri Sembilan.

“Thank you, friends, from PKR N9 and Melaka.

“The unofficial results have shown that I won in both states. Still waiting for the final results.”

Rafizi’s challenger, Shamsul Iskandar, responded by saying Rafizi had no proof as the official results had yet to be finalised.

“No, his claim is not true. His claim has no proof. Not official. Five divisions are having problems and I hope that can be settled soon.”

On the video recording believed to be shot at the Tangga Batu division about PKR members not satisfied with the e-voting system, Shamsul said:

“The e-voting system is still new. At this stage, we can’t turn back, we can only improve it.”
