Zuraida: Carry out thorough probe

-

KUALA LUMPUR: A top PKR leader has described the issues plaguing the PKR polls as “disturbing” and urged for a thorough probe to be carried out.

PKR Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin, who is vying for one of the vice-president’s posts, said she was informed that in Selayang and Petaling Jaya Utara (PJU), some of the voters were not party members.

“I heard in PJU or Selayang, our party workers or members discovered that some voters were not the from (respective) branches or even party members.

“We find them (the issues) to be disturbing.

“These need to be investigated,” said the local government and housing minister at the Parliament lobby yesterday.

It was reported on Sunday that seven had been arrested in a series of fracas that broke out in several branches during the second leg of the Selangor PKR election.

Among the branches that saw chaos were Gombak, Selayang, PJU and Puchong.

Zuraida said re-elections would be held in Negri Sembilan and Melaka due to technical issues.

Polls in the two states were supposed to have concluded on Saturday.

She said among them was due to discrepancies in voter turnout numbers and “missing voters”.

“I do not know the specifics, but it seems that there are technical issues that should be addressed and resolved by the party election steering committee.

“The numbers of voters who turned up did not tally with the results. There is a technical problem where a number of voters are missing.”
