ONE of the four suspects involved in the hit-andrun incident, which led to the death of Wan Amirah Wan Alias, had his remand extended one more day until today.

The extended remand order on the 24-year-old Libyan man, believed to be the driver who mowed down the 31-year-old Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) employee at Shaftsbury Square in Cyberjaya, was issued by Sepang Court assistant registrar Alpha Dragam.

Another suspect, a 22-year-old Yemeni man, who was also taken to the court yesterday, was released on police bail.

Two remaining suspects, another Libyan man and a local woman, who were detained with the duo, were released on police bail on Sunday.

The four were arrested on Oct 19 at two locations and were remanded for four days to assist in investigations under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

The Yemeni suspect was detained at Persiaran Putra Permai Selesa, Pusat Bandar Putra Permai, Seri Kembangan, and the rest were nabbed at Verdi Residence, Symphony Hills, Cyberjaya.

Sepang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Aziz Ali was quoted as saying the arrests involved students of an international university in Cyberjaya and one of the men had admitted to having been behind the wheel of the vehicle in the hit-and-run incident.

Wan Amirah suffered serious injuries when she was mowed down and dragged for several metres in front of a row of shops at Shaftsbury Square on Oct 17.

She died the next day.

The incident was captured on a closed-circuit television camera and the footage went viral.
