BUKIT MERTAJAM: A nasi lemak seller was injured when she was allegedly robbed and assaulted by at least two men in Machang Bubok here on Saturday.

Central Seberang Prai district police chief Assistant Commissioner Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid said the victim was at her stall about 6am when one of the men approached her with a meat cleaver.

He said one of the suspects proceeded to punch the woman and told her to sit down.

“The suspect told the victim to give him all the jewellery she was wearing,” he said, adding that she was robbed of a pair of earrings, a necklace, two gold rings, a bracelet and RM200.

Nik Ros Azhan said the suspects fled the scene on a motorcycle, adding that the victim suffered injuries to the back.

Police, he said, had detained three men aged between 36 and 41 at separate locations to facilitate investigations.

He said the first suspect, who was arrested in Bukit Mertajam, led police to a house in Taman Remia, where the alleged mastermind was arrested.

“The stolen jewellery have been recovered by police,” he said.

“Police later raided a home in Simpang Ampat and arrested the third suspect.

“The suspects were involved in 23 criminal cases and have been remanded.”

The case is being investigated under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code for armed robbery.
